'Money makes the world go around'

I was scrolling through Instagram during the day and a few things caught my attention. I noticed how a majority of the people are all about making money whether it be through promoting a certain product, or by merely being an 'influencer'. Now don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that wanting to make money is a sin, but what I am saying is that we need to have a heart check.

"But they that will be rich fall into a temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. " - 1 Timothy 6:9-10.

I'd like to point a few things out about that passage of scripture:

Firstly, it speaks of the rich and not the poor people. So poor people are excluded from the temptation that's mentioned above. The reason why, only the rich will fall into that temptation is because of the money that they have. With more money can come pride, greed and a loss of dependency on God.

Secondly, the foolish and hurtful lusts of the rich are known to drown men (people) in destruction & perdition. What is the place known as a place of destruction? Hell.

Thirdly, the love of money is the root of all evil. God knew from the beginning that people would use money as a tool. The problem is not with money, but the problem is with the people using the money. Do you love money? Have you gotten to a point where you would kill for money? Are you so desperate for money that you are willing to violate God's law in order to get rich?

Jesus made it clear in Luke 16:13 that we can only serve one God. We either choose to serve God or we choose mammon, which is the god of money.

Lastly, it says that while some coveted after money they strayed away from or left the faith. This simply shows that their love for money was greater than their love for God which is why they stopped serving Him. Let's not make money our everything because money isn't eternal nor can it save us. Our money doesn't follow us when we die.

There is nothing wrong with being rich, ask Abraham 😜. The problem is when you take your eyes off Jesus and make money your god. Money cannot save your soul.

Fix your eyes on Jesus.
